What to Pack in Your Ice Chest on Competition Day
Good Morning Titans,
This is a question that came up a lot in the gym last time we went to compete in the Swamp Monster Shootout and it’s a valid question. Often times these competitions can start early in the morning and will last until the evening and you’re going to need something quick to sustain you through out the day. If the weather is hot, then that adds another dimension as well. So, let’s talk about a few things you need to make sure you through in your ice chest.
What to Drink?
This one should be a no brainer. Buy a case of water and put it in your ice chest. I’d also recommend buying a few sports drinks as well because you’re going to be losing a lot of electrolytes through your sweat and it’s important to replenish those.
What About Food?
I personally believe that the absolute king of competition day food would have to be uncrustable peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. If you’ve been watching the YouTube channel, then you’ve seen me talk about these a couple of times when I’m getting ready for competitions. They’re perfect because they have plenty of fat and sugar to help fuel you though out the day. You don’t have to make them the night before, you can just throw the whole box in your ice chest and if you need to you can also share them with your hungry team mates. The best thing about them is that they’re individually wrapped and don’t take a long time to grab and eat.
Any Supplements?
I don’t bring a lot of supplements with me to competition day but what I do bring I feel is very important.
The first thing I throw in my bag is a couple of pre prepped protein powders. I just put what I need in a Ziplock bag and throw it in.
The second thing I always make sure to pack is some form of caffeine. Personally, I’m a big fan of Strike Force Energy. They come in little tin pouches that you can mix with a water bottle. Not so much caffeine that it gives me the jitters but enough that I’m not falling asleep. It comes in four different flavors to so that you can have a little variety. My personal favorite combination to do is to throw a pack of the grape into a purple Gatorade.
The final supplement that I always make sure I pack are salt tablets. You’re going to be sweating a lot. Especially if it’s an outdoor competition in the summer so having a way to replenish the salt you lose is going to be very important. You can buy a bottle on amazon.
So that’s it for this article. I hope you learned something that may make you change the way you pack your ice chest next competition day.
